The Mankato Curling Club is one of the oldest curling club's in the state of Minnesota, boasting more than 110 years of competitive action. However, for the first time since its founding in 1903, the club was unable to provide home ice for the 2014-2015 season.
In the late fall of 2013 the club's aged compressors were rebuilt and two new chillers were installed. These were costly expenditures for the club. After several months of work by the club members, contractors and volunteers; and many hours spent in fundraising efforts we were happily anticipating the 2014-2015.
We were once again disappointed in the fall of 2014 when bringing up the ice making system; installation and equipment issues continued to plague the club as both compressors and the new chiller plates failed.
In order for ice to return to Mankato, the club will be spending the off season again focused on the repair and replacement of refrigeration equipment. A current estimate of fully replacing the ice plant is approximately a $160,000.
While we have a dedicated membership, we so urgently need support from both our community and curling family at this time. Raising $50,000 in the next several months will allow us to get the project underway and ice possible for the 2016 season!
The club has recently received its Non-Profit 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization making all contributions made to MCC tax deductible.
